Afghanistan is a country located in South Asia and Central Asia. It is bordered by Pakistan to the east and south, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to the north, and China to the northeast. Afghanistan has a population of around 38 million people and the official languages are Pashto and Dari (Afghan Persian).
Afghanistan has a long history and has been an important crossroads for trade and cultural exchange throughout history. The country has been controlled by various empires and dynasties throughout its history, and has been occupied by foreign powers, including the British and Soviet empires.
Afghanistan has been in a state of war for decades. The Soviet Union invaded in 1979, and a civil war between various factions followed the Soviet withdrawal in 1989. The Taliban, a radical Islamist group, seized control of the government in 1996 and ruled until 2001, when they were removed from power by a US-led coalition following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The war in Afghanistan continues for about 22 year. The United States Armed Forces completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan on 30 August 2021, marking the end of the 2001–2021 war.
Afghanistan is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world, and has struggled with poverty, unemployment, and poor infrastructure. Despite these challenges, the country has a rich cultural heritage and is known for its traditional crafts, music, and cuisine.
